In December, it was the Turkey Burger. In January, it was the Hound Dog.
And in February, the special from All Star Lanes is the Pulled Chicken sandwich.
Yes I know, ‘pulled’ has been done to such a degree that even the supermarkets are getting in on the act. But I’m sorry, I like it. I like that it’s moist and tender, that it has texture and spice and sweetness. And dammit I was on a carb day and I needed fuelling. So I went.

And I sampled.

And it was good. Nice tickle of heat, astringency from the pickle and sweetness, tender meat, crisp coleslaw and soft bun and that slice of crisped chicken skin.
Add to that the sides, the fries with smoked salt were great as ever, but the stand out?

The truffle mac and cheese. Before the truffle it was a good mac, with the truffle? Oh yes. This is great. The balance of cheese to rich truffle is bang on and next time I might need to add an extra portion of this to my order.
You know for sharing.
And then because we just happened to be in on Shrove Tuesday…

A pile of pancakes to share. All Star Lanes outdid themselves and for every two mains, offered free pancakes to share.
And I’m not one to look free pancakes in the mouth.
Though the pancakes were a one off (sadly), the pulled chicken will be on for the whole of February and I for one, may just have to try and squeeze in a second visit. Not just for the mac, honest.
The food and drink enjoyed on this visit were provided at a small discount by All Star Lanes. The pancakes were free to all who visited.
A meal supplied, doesn’t ensure a positive review, however, as ever, the food, drinks and service were excellent, and given the number of times I’ve visited previously, I’ll be back again soon for another cheat day. Again.
