I love cake.
I also love doing things for people – especially those that need support.
So what could be better than cake for charity? Really? Well that’s right, nothing. Well, unless you throw in a little fancy dress?
Caketober is a way to do all of these things and it’s to support my favourite charity, Forever Manchester whilst baking like a madman (or woman), buying (and of course scoffing) cake and wearing something silly.
Win, win and er win.
The idea is easy really. Sign up on the website with your company or organisation, pick a day in October and hold a bake sale – given the Great British Bake Off is back on our screens, it’s easy to add in a bit of a competition and make things a little more interesting. Fancy dress is optional but, if you’re going to do something, you might as well do it properly.
The charity you raise money for is Mancunian in it’s heart and soul. It’s for Manchester, for your community. It’s the reason I love it. I want to see my community and yours flourish.
So how am I getting involved?
Well, here’s where things are going to get a little interesting. Over the next few weeks, I and my Cake Correspondent, Andy are going to be working on recipes. I’m going to aim for one a week (!) and all will have a heavy Mancunian theme.
And a special selection will have a beer theme. Mr GFB and I are looking at Mancunian breweries to source the beers from and will then come up with a series of cakes for you to bake at home. Mancunians are damned good at beer.
Oh and as my practice sessions will be on a Sunday, I’ll no doubt be taking samples into the city (there’s only so much cake one girl can eat), so grab me (not literally though) and try some for yourself!
I’m also speaking to everyone I know and asking them to get involved – if you don’t bake, dress up. If you don’t dress up, bake and if you don’t do either? Well buy as much as you can scoff and raise a pretty penny for charity.
So please, sign up, get involved and support a really fantastic local charity. It might be your neighbour, the family across the street, your work colleague or a stranger that benefits from the money you help raise.
Hell, if I can run a half marathon for them, you can do this, right?
