Afternoon tea. It’s at a civilised time of day meaning you can enjoy the comfort of a cup of tea or indulge in something stronger if the mood takes you.

Invited to try the brand new afternoon tea at Damson in Media City, I was all a tingle after checking out their website and seeing how they clearly strive for excellence where their food is concerned.
It’s fast becoming the go to activity for birthdays, meetings or just a treat, Damson have some stiff competition.
Considering the modern and very chic surroundings the Afternoon Tea is served in a very traditional minimalist way, which only goes to highlight the delectable looking goodies available.
To be perfectly honest the little cakes and pastries on the top plate made me want to defy etiquette and go top to bottom, however I stuck to code and started with the sandwiches. A varying selection that shows that even though served very traditionally the offerings are less so. A personal favourite was the local roast beef, handmade horseradish & watercress; I believe the word delicious covers how I felt.
Next up were the scones, which caused a small debate about the table as to whether you put the cream on first or the jam, all in all I don’t think it matters as they light and fluffy and incredibly easy to munch on. I could of easily eaten twelve or more.
Finally we hit the cakes and pastries. Diving straight in I grabbed the cutest little bite sized banoffee pie that had caught my eye as soon as the waiter placed the set of plates down. It was teeny weeny and with beautiful crispy pastry and not too much of the toffee sauce it was just right, not too sickly or too dry and the slice of banana topped it off just right.
I then made it my personal mission to try all the cake on offer. I knew it might not end well, but was willing to give my all. I love carrot cake, so expectations were high – moist and sublimely delicious the cream overtook it a little but I would say no to another piece, ever. The other cakes were all top notch and tasty, the strawberry cream pastry was stunning.
If Damson excels at anything it’s creating simple delectable food, full of flavour. Divine surroundings with the comfort of cake and tea I would recommend it to anyone. Topped off with tea and a glass of Prosecco it’s the perfect end to some of the nicest afternoon tea I have had the delight to enjoy.
Available for just £14.95 pp as standard, or £18.95 pp with Prosecco, this will suit anyone’s pocket especially for a special occasion. Other establishments had better watch out because there is a new tea in town that’s going to take some beating.
