Knutsford.
Every time I’ve visited in the past it’s been during the day, usually involving a leisurely breakfast, a meander around the market or plundering the charity shop for goodies. It’s not somewhere I’d have immediately visited for it’s nightlife or bar scene – it simply wouldn’t occur to me.
Colour me convinced.
The Bronx Bar & Pizzettaria is aiming to bring a little bit of northern New York to Cheshire, and judging by the numbers there on opening night, there’s a lot of people who want their own little piece of NYC complete with pizzas, cocktails, neon signs and graffiti.
The bar has two floors, downstairs, a full bar with DJ decks, booths and tables, with a softened industrial feel given with the use of worn wood and bare brickwork, whilst up the graffiti emblazoned stairwell is the VIP space, with it’s own smaller bar, tables, and banks of seating along with a little more neon lighting, and nods to New York and it’s residents on tables and walls.
And the VIPs were out in force, as it seemed was most of Knutsford – dolled up and dressed up despite the chilly temperatures, familiar faces were out and about to check out the new space, see and be seen.
Unsurprisingly, given this is from the team behind Beef & Pudding and The Old Blind School, the pizza is great, and the samples circulating including the Fun Guy, a delicious mushroom and Parmesan, and the Bronx, twisting a margherita by adding basil gin and decorating with shredded basil, soon disappeared from the platters handed out.
Cocktails too were tasty little numbers, from the sweet and fruity Bronx Collins, to the rich syrupy black cherry of the Bronx Sour – or for those who preferred their booze a little straighter, beer, wine and fizz galore.
A little something for everyone.
The launch night was fun and fabulous, and included the winner of my competition to win launch party tickets, Jane, who was happy to pose for a brief picture before I dashed off into the night.
Knutsford, I do hope you’re ready for a little bit of BX.
