I’ve spoken before about my, well, lack of beauty routine.
I admit it, I’m rubbish. I often need inspiration or ideas, or I’d only ever wear mascara, eyeliner and forget to wear lipstick. I’m often surprised if I manage to put on mascara or blusher. If I’m honest, last week I forgot to take my make up brush with me to work and had to, er make do by applying just enough powder under my eyes with my finger. I’m glad to say I wasn’t going anywhere after work and spend most of the day hiding my half made up face in my office.
And my most reliable moisturiser is the tube of Savlon I keep in my office drawer, alongside the two sample bottles of whisky and my calculator.
I know. I’m such a classy bird.
But when I do get stuck, or have a mild panic about my wrinkles, or want to know what the latest trends in make up are (so I can probably ignore them and do what I can be bothered to anyway) there are only a handful of people I trust to advise me, only one or two sites I’ll visit. And one of the most trusted is Sali Hughes.
Even before I contemplated blogging, I read Sali’s reviews, whether on her own site or via the Guardian Weekend mag. I like that there’s no fuss, there’s no bull – if she doesn’t like it, it doesn’t work, she’ll tell you. Admittedly, there are lots (and lots) of elements way out of my price range, but she’s not afraid to write about, or have one of her contributors write about something cheap and cheerful and much more likely to be in the battered make up bag hiding under my coffee table.
So I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I heard that shoppers at Selfridges are being invited to a one-of-a-kind masterclass with Sali at one of two events in Manchester – both the Exchange store (17 September), and the Trafford store (25 September).
During the events, Sali will be giving four exclusive tutorials on the following beauty routines:
- Lips
- Foundation and brushes
- Skin, serums and oils
- Eyes and brows
And if you spend £75 or more at the event, they can take advantage of Selfridges ‘Pick and Mix’ Wall, where they will be able to choose three mini wonder products from their favourite brands.
Credit card, I’m eyeing you up.
Throw in complimentary makeovers, a DJ providing the music, prosecco and a selection of chocolates… er yeah, I’ve done some diary juggling too.
It also means you’ll get chance to eye up The Masters, stunning pieces from the kings and queens of design, showcased in Selfridges stores. Each designer has created a one off piece, or capsule collection specifically for Selfridges and with names like Jean-Paul Gaultier, Diana Vreeland and Marc Jacobs, there are some seriously stunning items to look at.
Now if anyone has a spare £7k, there’s a gorgeous gown I’ve got my eye on….
