Having had a delightful, almost restful weekend with Mr GFB, it seems there are a few things you may like to keep an eye out for.
On Saturday we visited Fire and Salt BBQ for the last of their Summer Barbecue events. After stuffing ourselves with ribs, brisket, homemade barbecue sauces, burnt ends, macaroni cheese, jalepeno hush puppies and chocolate and parmesan griddle nuts (glazed donuts injected with chocolate and parmesan sauce, then griddled with more sugar), we waddled home more than replete.
What we most definitely can say is that those lucky people going to the Almost Famous Pig Out on Tuesday (we tasted the barbecue sauce on offer to you…) you are in for a treat and quite possibly more pork than you can possibly eat.
What we will also say is that when more dates are on offer to eat with Mal and his lovely lady, then leap at the opportunity. You won’t regret it.
On Sunday, I trundled solo over to BrewDog. The Manchester pilot brew, briefly mentioned here, was finally ready and Dean had saved me a small glass. Happily I went to sample and was definitely not disappointed. This knocks Never Mind the Anabolics onto its backside. How a beer can manage to be nutty, gently creamy and still have that citrussy grapefruit kick, I don’t know, but it does. If BrewDog don’t make this into a regular, it would be a travesty.
Finally, I went to Brewer Street Bridge, where Kerry Howarth and her partner and our mutual friend Sarah were putting up the yarnbomb comissioned from Buddleia Arts as part of the 2012 Canal Festival. Kerry has finished the main part of this work today – but if you’d like to get involved, or just have a look, pop by the bridge near Piccadilly Basin this week.
