What’s better than a cocktail?
Yes, you’ve guessed it, a free cocktail. All Star Lanes are now offering special deals during their Cocktail Hour, which runs 4pm to 7pm (so it’s 3 hours Monday to Friday, but I’m not going to correct them, I can drink a lot of cocktails in 3 hours) on selected cocktails and buckets of beer.
And even better this little offer is on now, just in time for payday!

Myself and friend Hank were invited over to give this cocktail menu a try and ever eager to research these things in the interests of yourself dear reader of course, we made a date in our diaries and wandered over.
I’m becoming quite a fan of All Star. I admit, as we’ve seen previously, the bowling is something I’m a little bad at. But the place is growing on me. Knowing how good the Bourbon menu is helps, as well as the good selection of gins on offer, but it’s the cocktails and the food that keep me coming back.
Sadly I still haven’t found a handsome man to help me learn to bowl better a la Marge Simpson.

So to the cocktails. Hank, ever aware of my ‘fizz’ issues (it gets me very very drunk, very very quickly) came to my aid and chose the elegant looking Derby Royal. This is light, refreshing, but the bourbon keeps it soft and rounded in flavour. One of the times I’m really regretting prosecco’s insistence in turning me into a drunk lady.

But not long lived, because I got to have a Moscow Mule. All Star do a fantastic ginger syrup, that’s got a great warmth and sharpness to it. This, with the ginger beer, and Finlandia Vodka, was another refreshing number, but that little ginger kick, kept me going back for another sip and another, and another.

Not ones to do our research by halves, it was time for round two. I’d long awaited a Largarita, having downed several previously at Lust Luck Liquor & Burn. This was close to the original, but not quite there – we couldn’t figure out why, perhaps the omission of Triple Sec, but it’s easy to see it’s a little tweak away from perfection.
The Aloha Jar proved a winner. This little jar, full of fresh pineapple, and 42Below Passion Fruit Vodka, is ridiculously moreish. The pineapple keeps it sweet, but acidic, meaning that before you know it, you’re onto your second jar and wondering where it all went.

The final number on our list of tasters (we skipped the beers) was the Raspberry Bramble. Just to look at this is beautiful. Made with fresh raspberry puree, and lots of it, Bombay Sapphire and lemon juice, it’s simple, but oh so lovely. The raspberries keep their powdery perfumed taste, the gin is there as a little tickle, but not over dominating and the lemon juice keeps it from being too sweet. In fact there’s enough fresh fruit there to make it one of your five a day, I’m sure.
So this Friday, once work is done, I really won’t know what you’re waiting for.
I’ll be the one at the bar with a line of Aloha Jars in front of me.
