I’m pretty sure, given the number of brunches I’ve been indulging in recently, that I don’t need to tell you what a fan I am of them. Got up late, missed breakfast? Brunch. Post gym session or run, need two meals in one? Brunch. Suffering from last night and can only just drag yourself from bed and put on some sunglasses? Brunch.

The latest venue to roll out their brunchtime offerings is Time & Place in Heaton Moor – no longer to locals have to trek into town, or sit on the noisy Heaton Moor Road – why would you when there’s peace and quiet on a side street, away from the hustle and bustle (and faces you possibly saw the night before).
Stopping by on Saturday (before I ran off to Hatstock), I met some friends for a bit of a catch up, and used that most perfect of excuses. Brunch.

I was, for once, early. And whilst I waited on both of my dates opted to hit something a little stronger than a cup of tea. Time for a Red Snapper. This Bloody Mary relative, uses gin instead of vodka (they know me well) and, as you’d expect at any good venue, you’re asked how spicy you’d like it. Normally I’m all about the heat, even at breakfast – just ask me about my sambal addiction – but today, I was feeling a little overtired and icky after a long, busy week. So it was just enough for a little back of the throat tickle. Spicy, cool, savoury, refreshing. Just what the doctor ordered.

One of the best things about the brunch at Time & Place is the non carb options. I’ve long accepted that if I’m going to train as hard as I do (and do all the drinking and eating) that some balance has to be there somewhere. And so on the advice of my trainer, breakfast and lunch are no/low carbohydrate meals.

So whilst one of my dates indulged in the rather tasty looking full English, and the other indulged in fluffy pancakes, bacon and maple syrup…

… mine, was just perfect for me.

Spanish eggs. Scrambled eggs with chorizo adding a good bit of spice, wilted spinach, mushrooms and pea shoots to add a lighter note (and to look pretty and green).
Filing, tasty, and not just me forlornly picking the tasty carby goodness off my plate and eating what’s left. Believe me, when I say there are few things more depressing than handing your toast over to a friend, and surreptitiously licking the butter from your fingers, just to get a taste of the toast. For I do love carbs – I just like lifting weights more.
So thank you T&P for making brunch a less carb filled place and making me feel a little less like the awkward cow at the table.
See you again very soon!
This meal and accompanying drinks were supplied for free by Time & Place. As ever, this doesn’t guarantee a positive review (if anything, I tend to be a harsher critic).
In this case we had a lovely lazy morning, and as mentioned, the no carb options meant I didn’t feel like some picky eater, being difficult. There are options and the staff are happy to accommodate your dietary need. Thanks guys!

Nice review. It looks great.
Thanks – we certainly enjoyed it!
