I know we’re not doing our new kitchen for another couple of months and are still at the stage where we’re trying to make decisions about shelf heights and cupboards, but I just want to do stuff. I want to chip the plaster off the walls and rip out cupboards and choose paint and well, paint and stuff.

I’m impatient.

I keep having to distract myself. And when the opportunity to review a non-stick frying pan came up, well, you would wouldn’t you? I mean, it’s the colour I want in my kitchen. And I need a new frying pan….

Ok, I was seduced by the idea of a new pretty frying pan. Yeah, I’m a cheap date.

Pans in my house take some battering, especially frying pans. I can be a lazy cook. Want something reducing? Frying pan. Poaching eggs? Frying pan. Stir fry for one? Frying pan.

So it’s a freebie, that’s great. Is it actually any good?

I almost don’t want to admit it. It’s bloody brilliant.

I asked twitter for some suggestions on what to cook to really test it out – pancakes, scrambled eggs, all those annoying things that stick like hell normally.

First up scrambled eggs.

Um yes, mastered that. Not a problem at all – barely needed to wash the pan afterwards.

Next, protein pancakes, using this Greek yoghurt based recipe from the fabulous Nic.

Yeah, walked those. I started with a drop of oil in the pan, but didn’t actually need any, I could cooked the second half of the batter dry.

Puttanesca sauce? I usually leave this to reduce a lot and in my old pan, that could get rather messy and stuck on.

Nope, not a problem.

I’ve seared steak, fried bacon. I’m ridiculously impressed.

My only tiny niggle, and it’s ungrateful of me, I know, but a larger pan size would be better for me, so I can fit two steaks in at the same time. So I’m just going to bite the bullet and buy the bigger version.

And the even bigger version.

And maybe the wok….

And if they wouldn’t mind making a stock pot, sauce pan, milk pan and a couple of oven trays in the same colour, that would be great….
