No, no, don’t panic, I’m not suddenly announcing I’m with child or anything like that.
This pudding club is about exactly what it says. Pudding. And I’ve had to wait a couple of days to write this because, I ended up with a sugar overdose and it took me a little time to recover. As I’m on such a restrictive diet, my body simply can’t handle high levels of sugar.
Dammit.
But if you’re game, and trust me, when you’ve read this, you will be, then you should keep an eye out for the next one (scheduled for the new year). Why? Just take a look at the picture below.
Yes, that’s it. Click to get a bigger view. Chocolate dipped, sprinkle covered salted pretzel. And that’s was just a nibble on our arrival. We were also greeted with this:
Yes, that’s a cocktail. With marshmallows.
These creations are all down to Charlotte (aka Bake-O-Rama) and the team with Home Sweet Home. So you know things are just going to get better and better. And we weren’t disappointed.
This is CHOCOLATE and mint. Yes, the chocolate deserves capital letters. There is a rich, but light chocolate mousse in that little plant pot, chocolate biscuit crumb on top, and a cube of chocolatey naughty fridge cake. My tastebuds were having a party and we were only on the first course.
Because this arrived. Yes that is a full English. And it isn’t. This is the most incredible (and please excuse me while I swear) mind fuck in the world. It’s all dessert. The black pudding? Chocolate fridge cake. The bacon? Light biscuit. The hash brown? Coconut and white chocolate. The egg? Apricot and a set custard. The ketchup? Strawberry puree.
And the beans. The biggest mind fuck of them all. The look, the texture, the mouthfeel, all the same as the real thing. Seriously. Then the taste is sweet mango and icing.
I had started to struggle by this point, so along side the huge jug of water we had on the table, I needed coffee.
And then this beauty arrived. I wish I’d had this boxed up. Desperately wish. Because this was just plain sexy as hell. This brioche with Sailor Jerry, apple, custard, caramel and ice cream was just….
And yet, look. Look at that waste. And yet now, as I write this, I could eat one. Or two. I could cry.
Were we done though? Oh no. Not by a long shot.
Because we had these. Lightly spiced, pumpkin doughnuts, with cream cheese frosting. And a cup of coffee in a Bake-O-Rama labelled cup (which I don’t mind admitting I drank, before mopping out the paper cup which now sits on my work desk).
And for dessert?
Childhood on a plate. Jelly in layers of fruit and bubblegum flavours, cream, mango caviar that popped onto your tongue and sweeties.
And I was over the edge.
Into that state that kids get into when you don’t monitor how much pick n mix they put in the bag and how much they put in their mouths. Or when you’re trick or treating and eat everything you get given on the night in one sitting.
It took me 24 hours to recover. And another two days before I could look cake in the eye.
But it’s an experience I will never forget and with the creativity this lot have…. I kind of want to do it all again….
