After an invitation to attend an event, and to do a little networking with fellow bloggers, Keeley and I headed into Liverpool this weekend.
We’d long been told that the food scene is an interesting one, though not on the scale of Manchester and certainly there are nowhere near as many blogger types. But eager to put business and pleasure together we left a rather sunny Mancland and hopped in the car to Liverpool, fortified by a cupcake from the Dinner Games supper club the night before.
Meeting Liverpool writer Lucy of Grab Your Spoon in the Duke Street Espresso Bar. Lucy recommended the flat white (and having caught sight of Lucy’s own coffee) it had to be done. Creamy, bitter, rich – perfect to kick things off.
An hour later, coffees finished, bars and restaurants discussed, news such as Bacaro‘s opening (from those who brought you Salthouse Tapas) touched upon and Keeley and I had enough on our list to spend a few weekends sampling.
But we had taken up enough of Lucy’s time and we had her lunch recommendations to head to.
It has to be said, as soon as the suggestion was made, my tummy growled. Bakchich on Bold Street does the most incredible Lebanese street food and at bargain prices. We’d sadly missed the breakfast menu (we need to head back for that in a timely fashion). We settled on a platter, which between the two of us was £12.95. Hummos, baba ghannouj, tabboulet, falafel, fattoush salad, manakeesh jibne with with pickles and home made flat bread.
This is why I run. Falafel that had layers of creamy nutty flavour, the salads were herb filled and light, the dips plentiful and delicious. I hated to leave.
But leave we must, with a quick stop in Bold Street Sweets. Not unlike our own Mr Simms on St Ann’s Square, but with a lighter feel. Plenty of American confectionery, old style boiled sweets, jellies and chocolates to keep a sweet tooth happy.
Sadly, our destination event happened without us. A miscommunication and we walked away.
Thankfully, we consoled ourselves with a browse in the huge beauty bonanza that is the Beauty Bazaar (my current nail varnish obsession could get very expensive in there) and finally by a visit to the gorgeous Lunya close to Liverpool One. Despite desperately wanting a sherry flight (another reason to return), I ‘made do’ with a strong and frothy cappuccino before we left for home.
Short and sweet though our visit was, Liverpool, we’re coming back very soon….
Promise.

Ahh I have never seen that Lebonese place on Bold Street, wonder if it is fairly new. Will have to check it out next time. Thanks for the tip!
