One of the things that Manchester is really, really good at is street food. Whether it’s the markets in the city centre, Levenshulme, Chorlton or Altrincham or one of the festivals or events that happen throughout the year. In fact with the arrival of Northern Streats, championing northern street food, we’re way ahead of our southern cousins.
This Easter weekend our home grown collective, Guerrilla Eats is back in town – last month, saw it move to a new home in Salford, close to Salford Central Station to be precise; an indoor venue, perfect for us to hide away from this dreadful cold wind and instead fill our faces with good food and beer.
This month is looking even more fantastic, with an extended drinks menu to include more craft beers and mixers and some new faces supplying the food.
Dirty Dogs are back with their huge brats, spicy sauces and sauerkraut – a Mancunian favourite, I’d get in that queue early.
Barnhouse Bistro is back offering juicy burgers – the memory of the one I had last time from that little green hut is still imprinted on my memory. Goes to happy place….
The fantastic Margo and Rita will be there, Rita is not to be missed strikingly purple, the team make some of the best burritos I’ve tried – including a fabulous marmalade pulled pork. I’m putting my order in now as they were so popular last time they sold out!
And still there are more – Streatza, offering fresh pizza made there and then, using a woodfired oven. This gives the dough a perfect texture and flavour.
The ever popular Fire and Salt BBQ will be there too. If you haven’t tried their American style barbecued goodies, then you’re really missing out on true barbecue goodness.
Want something with a sunshine added? Then Las Paelleras is for you. Warm Spanish style street food to remind us what Spring should be about, rather than the extended winter outside.
Finally, should you fancy something sweet, you need to visit Pancake Corner – though they offer fabulous savouries too I’m a sucker for their Nutella pancakes, perfect for a ‘dessert’ option.
So, if that little lot has whetted your appetite, you know what to do Saturday night don’t you? Skip dinner, head to Guerrilla Eats and get fed and watered (should that read beered?). Perfect start to a long weekend.
