My personal style tends to lean towards vintage – specifically the 1950s/1960s; but there are one or two other decades that hold onto my heart too.
Perhaps most surprisingly (or not?) is the 1990s – my teenage years. Grunge, Nirvana, corset belts and flowered dresses with Doc Martens. Checked ‘lumberjack’ shirts, dungarees and sheer shirts. And oh god. The denim…
So, imagine how excited I was when an invite to the new Thriftette and Waiste collaboration? Thriftette, a hive of gorgeous vintage clothes and retro pieces is now stocking Waiste denim – a fantastic brand of customised denim and, if you’re a bit nineties fan like me, the whole thing will get you rather excited.
Teaming up with friends Laura and Jessica, I had to head over for a nosey at their launch party. And we were not disappointed.
The clothes and accessories that Thriftette have on their rails are a homage to the best of 90s fashion – everything from jersey dresses, to tie dye, to denim shorts, there’s something for everyone. With Jessica playing model, Laura and I threw ourselves into 90s fashion.
This I loved at first sight. A true vintage dress that at the age of about 16 I could have easily had sitting in my wardrobe. The corset detailing would have been just enough goth for my teenage self… And actually I did find myself wondering if it would fit now…
Having been a bit of a rock chick in my teens, this little combination of shorts and t-shirt just needed a pair of DMs to finish it off.
These are going on my shopping list. I know that either of these will have everyone asking where I got it from.
And I’m pretty certain that either I, or one of my friends owned this jacket…
However, spotting some more Waiste Denim, we investigated and I fell in love…
The customisation and detailing is gorgeous.
Taking vintage fabrics, dyes, ink and crochet, these are stunningly unique and play on grunge perfectly.
However both Jessica and Laura had other ideas.
And wanted something distinctly warmer…
And given the weather recently, I really can’t blame them wanting something both warm and glamorous.
Thriftette and it’s stock of Waiste can be found in Afflecks Palace, in the Northern Quarter. Given that the 90s are now vintage and back on trend, it’s the perfect opportunity to indulge in a little retro fun.
