Things have been so manic recently, that when Manchester Cake Club invited me to the Real Macaron Company event, I hated to say no.
Luckily Keeley was more than up to helping out…

Charlie and I switched personalities this weekend, she was already booked on an alcohol event so I attended a cake event in her place. Not that I have an aversion to cake, I just prefer booze. Off to Wilmslow I trotted to see what the Real Macaron Co. had to offer.

The macaron taster event took place at the Intoto Wilmslow showroom where the classes on offer will be held. The space is ideal and light with top of the range facilities that you would expect from such a place as this.
The event started with the tasting, always the best way to start in my opinion! Gaye Perry, owner of the Real Macaron Co. had made lots of flavours for us to try including classics such as milk chocolate and lemon curd as well as some different flavours such as chilli chocolate and earl grey with white chocolate.
Being a rum fan I went straight for the rum truffle flavour. The shell was a vivid orange colour which, I loved but it needed more rum flavour for me. I couldn’t really taste it. I couldn’t resist the earl grey with white chocolate and honey flavour either, its white shell was speckled with vanilla and tasted divine. Just enough of the tea flavour to enhance without overshadowing the sweetness from the white chocolate and honey.
As if tasting macarons for the afternoon wasn’t enough, we were also treated to a demonstration from Gaye herself on how to make them! She shared her wisdom and tips from her experiences on how to get the most from baking these little delightful morsels at home. Now I do like baking but I am all about ease and rarely try a recipe that looks too difficult.
Having seen this demonstration from Gaye I was motivated to give macarons a whirl and am even excited to book onto one of her classes in the future. For just £30 you can spend a couple of hours with the lady herself whilst she shows you how to make Parisian style macarons from scratch. The session also includes a tasting and goodies to bring home. If that isn’t value for money I don’t know what is!
