Review: Freya Deco Plunge Bra with Bras Galore

Before I start, the title of this post may hint that there will be boobs. There will. There will be boobs in a bra. If you do not like boobs, or are offended by boobs, or are at work reading this, you may wish to stop reading. It’s not strictly NSFW, there’s no nudity, but a fair few employers may look at you with raised eyebrows if a giant image of my boobs appears on your PC screen.

I’ve also realised I’ve used the word boobs a lot. I like the word boobs. It will appear some more.

Buying bras is, to put it bluntly a bit of a bloody minefield. No two brands are the same, half the time no two bras from the same brand are the same and you end up with a small collection of what to the untrained eye (or boob) would be a random collection of sizes. But you and I ladies, we know better. We know that that seemingly random selection just happen to fit your back, underarm, shoulder and boob area properly. 

(And there might be some there that don’t really fit perfectly, but the bra cost a fortune and looks pretty and you missed the deadline for sending it back.)

We’re supposed to replace our bras every 6-12 months and following the demise of La Senza, I was bereft. Their bras fitted me beautifully  – they sat flat against my skin, lasted for ages, always looked gorgeous and the chewing gum gray colour took longer to appear than on many other brands. Even better, I’m not blessed with big boobs and as a 36C (mostly) their bras with a bit more oomph gave me amazing looking boobage. As I write, I’m down to my last La Senza bra and I just can’t throw it away yet. 

In the meantime, I’m searching for alternatives. Primark have some with great oomph, but they don’t last very long and go grey and dingy fast. I’ve tried some at Marks and Spencer, but despite their excellent sizing guide online, am up a cup-size, down a cup-size, up a back-size and pretty darned confused.  

Bras Galore offered to come to the rescue. 

Bras Galore offer a wide range of brands, from Freya to Elomi and Fantasie and cover sizes A to K, back sizes 28 to 48 and lingerie sizes 8 to 26. So there’s something for almost everyone.

After a good ogle of their site, I selected this Freya Deco Moulded Plunge Bra. After a bit of reading online, advice was that their sizing was pretty accurate and fit was rated well. I sent off my order and waited.

I didn’t have long to wait. Barely a couple of days later, a little parcel arrived, bra carefully wrapped in branded tissue paper. 

The bra was as well made as I’d hoped for, with the requisite Freya branding label. After reading other reviews, I had stuck with my ‘true’ sizing and slipped it on with crossed fingers. Figuratively crossed obviously because to put it on with literally crossed fingers would be just plain weird, and somewhat hard to do. I then posed in the gym mirror. 

Yep, that’ll do nicely. 

The fit is great, it sits flat, no riding up my back, and can cope with the weight of my boobs – my boobs aren’t big, but they’re heavy. 

Cup fit was good too, no overflowing, or double boob, and with a touch of strap tightening we had some nice curve going on.

My only disappointment was perhaps the lack of oomph. As a whole I’m rather bottom heavy and so I like a little bit of boost up top to balance me out a bit. This offered some and gave a great combination of support with with a little jiggle, but not as much boobage as perhaps I’d like. 

But still, for day wear, and office wear, it’s a great bra and given the very speedy service from Bras Galore themselves, I know where I’ll be shopping from my next one, and perhaps the matching knickers.
