I’m just like everyone else, I like pretty things. But one thing has always puzzled and annoyed me at the same time. When I go to a bar or restaurant and they serve me coffee in a glass, without a handle, and yet the glass gets hot, I burn my fingers and get cross.
Why? I appreciate it looks pretty, I like the idea, but I’m really not fond of burnt fingertips, or coffee cold enough to sit in the glass without burning my hand.
So after my frying pan review, the same company asked if I’d review their double wall glasses – and a double wall is a little bit of science I can get behind.
The wall of air between each layer of glass, not only looks pretty, but means your hot coffee can comfortably sit in the glass without you burning your fingers – the heat doesn’t pass through. And for your cold drinks, the cold doesn’t pass through either, so there’s no likelihood of condensation to make the glass slippy.
I’m already impressed, but then they’re also tough little things, with my having already dropped one on the office floor and watched it bounce. Yes, bounce. I was so relieved I didn’t have to run off and find the cleaner and suffer her deep, querulous stare as she drags the vacuum cleaner into the office. She scares me.
All in all, pretty, tough, easy to hold in your hand and at £24.95 for a pack of four, I’m thinking ideal for Christmas, great for a wedding gift and I’m eyeing up the larger 12 oz glasses for big fat winter warming hot chocolates, filled with calories, a touch of booze and whipped cream on top.
