This post is sort of devoted to a friend. A friend who loves rum, a lot. This dedication is mostly because the last time I drank this rum, I had taken it to her house for her opinion.
We drank over half a bottle.
Let me introduce you to Sippin.
This Carribbean beauty is a blend of 3, 5 and 8 year old Trinidadian rum and the Mulled version that I received to sample (I’ve been told there’s also a ginger and lime version which I’m going to need, thank you) holds lots of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and orange citrus, so it smells like Christmas.
In short, it’s bloody gorgeous.
Being a spiced rum, it’s quite sweet, but the ABV is still 37.5%, so you still get a fair bit of bang for your buck and, being a Trinidadian rum, you get a rich molasses style sweetness, that almost toffee like flavour that lingers after you’ve sipped. Throw in the orange, the pepper from the nutmeg, the warmth from the cinnamon and that sharpness from the ginger and oh, my.
It’s delicious with ginger beer, and I suspect would be great with some hot water, like a Burnley Bene ‘n’ hot style, but for both myself and my friend, straight, with ice and a cinnamon stick suited us just perfectly thank you.
And I think that’s the thing I really like about this rum. I like Old J, and Sailor Jerry’s, but unless I move to the powerful Tiki Fire, I find the sweetness too much after a couple and I need to add something sharp to it, or make a move towards a Dark n Stormy.
This, despite the brown sugar, is a proper sipping rum. It’s so moreish. We couldn’t help ourselves, we just kept returning to the bottle for another drop, and another and another. Until we realised we’d made our way through over half the bottle, and I still needed to actually write this review.
As it stands, you can’t get hold of this rum in your local supermarket, or necessarily your wine shop, but I wish you could. Because this really is worth it – whether you’re a rum ‘n’ coke officianado, cocktail lover, or like me drink it straight, this will suit everyone. I’m guessing from the blurb on the website, that this is what the founder Damian had in mind.
Though if you prefer mixers, I’d definitely suggest you give this a sip or three straight first, because I think you might be pleasantly surprised.
So, in dedication to my friend A, I’m going to pour myself a glass tonight and hope it doesn’t turn into the second half of the bottle.
Maybe.
This bottle of rum was very kindly supplied by Sippin UK for me to review. This of course, doesn’t guarantee a positive review. However, in this case, PLEASE CAN WE GET THIS RUM REGULARLY? WE NEED IT. THANK YOU.

Great review, perfectly sums up this rum. It’s beautiful and such a shame you can’t buy it yet. I will be needing the lime and ginger one thank you, please Sippin! Damien should be my friend
