Manchester has a new rum! Allow me to introduce you to Decorrum. Promising a little 1920s style the bottle is long and elegant with an Art Deco inspired design.
Whilst I don’t know much about the makers behind it, what I do know is that they’ve also leaked a planning application for ‘Decorrum Tower’, a bottle-shaped tower, also inspired by Art Deco, featuring luxury apartments, a five-star hotel and exclusive private members club. And that’s not all, there’s also a revolving restaurant situated in the neck of the ‘bottle’ and will feature a 24/7 cocktail bar.
I’ll admit, I’ve not only raised an eyebrow, I’ve also taken a pinch of salt or two.
But enough about that, let’s get to the liquid itself. Made using a Demerara rum from Guyana, it’s then spiced with vanilla, homegrown honeycomb (from the beehives on top of The Printworks), rhubarb, cinnamon, clove, orange peel and ginger.

Neat, the nose has lots of sweetness, roundness from the vanilla, ginger, and cloves. Classic spiced rum notes. The palate is less sweet than the nose would have you believe, sweetness sits at the front with lots of vanilla and the cinnamon, but the cloves hit big at the back of the palate and that’s the lingering flavour that sits in the mouth.

Their recommended serve is with cola – add a wedge of lime as garnish to cut bring a little acidity, but personally, I think this would be fantastic with ginger ale and a slice of lime too.
And not only is this rum good on the palate, it’s good for the planet. With every bottle you buy, you adopt a Western Honey worker bee, strengthening the bee population in Manchester. The bees are be located in the sanctuary on top of the Printworks, meaning that they go on again to supply the honeycomb that’s used in the rum. Additionally, a donation will also be made to the community charity Forever Manchester.
The rum is available from Master of Malt, or from local suppliers.
