One of the big loves in my life is vintage, but I mean vintage in truest sense. When I spoke to Wayne Hemingway (yes, I know, name dropping here) ahead of the Vintage Festival in Morecambe, he spoke of it as being classic design – exactly how I think of it. Something stylish, original, that doesn’t matter what time period it’s from, it’s a beautiful piece of clothing.
And style doesn’t always have to be traditional, for me it’s often about the quirky, the unusual. If I’m lucky it’ll be something no-one else has – or at least no-one else I know has. To be honest, the thought of wearing the same, or wearing things in the same way as everyone else makes me want to reach for the bottle of gin on my desk.
This is why when I spotted Masato on Twitter last year, I had to follow them. Classics with a quirky feel, these aren’t going to be things that you find everywhere (though they should be), they’ve got personality, and the customer service from the team is just downright lovely.
After all, who else sends out a personalised artwork for you alongside your order?
This cotton poppy print dress is one of my favourite pieces – given the weather we’ve had over the last week, I keep picturing this with a pair of wedges, a little clutch bag and a big floppy hat.
Or there’s a men’s shirt in the same fabric. I love the cut.
And I love this top – I don’t have the legs for the shorts, but a slim fitting pencil skirt to knee length would work just as prettily I think.
But, I am realistic about my budget.
So it’s not a bad thing that I’ve also been in love with Masato’s Bunni t-shirts since they first appeared – and I have finally managed to get my little fingers on one – that and the new Hattie design limited edition.
