I was a Las Vegas bride. On my wedding day I ran through the Mandalay Bay Casino in a red dress with two of my bridesmaids, who were dressed in black and white.
Elvis then walked me down the aisle and performed during the ceremony.
And yes, I know he wasn’t the real Elvis. He was this chap, who arrived himself on the day in jeans and a t-shirt with a gallon of coffee on the day. OK maybe it was a quart rather than a gallon, but the cup was huge.
So when the rumour mill started and it was hinted that Manchester 235 had revamped their bar into a Vegas themed stunner, I had to go. After all, I have form for this.
In case you’ve never been to a casino anyway, I can promise you, they’re not scary. Yes, you lose track of time, that’s true. But you’re unlikely to be by desperate people gambling their last penny, or high rollers spending millions. The truth is more likely to be that there’ll be people there who enjoy it – pitching their luck against the house and seeing who comes off worse.
And even more importantly, you don’t have to gamble. I went to Las Vegas to get married, not to gamble. In fact I think between the four of us we only gambled around $20. And we were there 6 days.
Formerly the Fusion Bar, the Vega Lounge has had a nice little facelift and like any Vegas starlet, she’s put her lipstick on, dragged out a new shimmery number and put on some chandelier earrings.
The bar now houses a number of private booths that can be shielded from prying eyes – each with stunning light fitting above, you can feel like a Vegas showgirl without showing so much as an inch of leg.
Alongside the revamp of the seating, comes a revamp of the cocktail menu. Whilst I am rather sad that the Bartender’s Breakfast, a long term favourite of mine has now left the building, I’m pleased to announce the arrival of the Hendrick’s Honeyapple – a lovely replacement for the title of favourite in this bar.
There are also some stunning new signature cocktails which have to be seen to be believed.
From the Poker Face Martini
To the Cocktail Roulette
All the way to the Vault, if you’re looking for something special, or just for something to show off with, you’ll find it here.
There’s also a revamped bar food menu should you get the munchies at 3am.
If this didn’t tempt you enough, the location should help – as part of the Great Northern, it’s close to All Star Lanes, Epernay, as well as the Manchester Cider Garden and Almost Famous pop-ups, and two minutes away from Brew Dog and the newly opened Albert Hall. So if you’re thinking of making a night of it, you’ve more options that you can shake a one-armed bandit at.
So if you’re out to impress, fancy a hen night with a difference or just want an excuse to glam up and feel like a celebrity, then you know where to go.
And I’ll promise to leave the Vegas puns at home.
Uh… Thank you very much.
(Sorry, I couldn’t resist).
With huge thanks to Manchester 235 and Carl Sukonik for the photographs (I hasten to add the ones that look exceptionally good, not my poor efforts)
