Wednesday saw the Vintage Manchester Awards – the first of many I hope.
Organised by Rachael Adams and the lovely Susan Earlam (editor of Vintage Manchester), it was an opportunity for those of us who love vintage to show our appreciation of those who put their time and effort into creating the scene that’s so great in Manchester.
Matt and Phred’s was the venue for the awards – delightfully alcoholic cakey nibbles supplied by those domestic goddesses the Pin ups in Pinnies, a reading from the talented Antony Padgett and music from the scintillating ladies Kiki deVille and Suzie Sequin – showcasing some of the best Manchester has to offer.
Winners included 78 DJ for Best Vintage DJ, Bethany Jane Davies as Best Vintage Beauty (Hair or Makeup) and Vintage Village Stockport as Best Vintage Fair or Market. All more than worthy winners.
As I’m always happy for an excuse to dress up, my own preparation began as soon as I had a confirmation for my ticket booking. A call to my hairdresser Frankie (the man behind the real life beehive depicted in my logo), meant I was booked in ahead of the event, a quick message to my friend Katharine (beauty blogger extraordinaire) meant I had advice and a lesson booked in too and I was ready to trawl for my outfit.
I narrowed it down to two lovelies. One from Deadly is the Female:

Being a greedy lady, I ordered both and made the decision on the day. Such a hard choice to make (and I can wear the other one at another event!)
As you’ll see from the pictures, Frankie did a fantastic job with my hair, and my makeup – the dress looked amazing and I *even* got to pose with Antony’s beautiful car (definitely the star of those shots).
I can’t take any credit for the photos – those in the salon were by Frankie himself (so he could avoid being in the shot), those of myself, my date and Alison at the event were by Alison from 4 Manchester Women, those of the event itself by Jenny Martin Photography and those of Katharine working on my trial makeup by Simon Bowers (who was also my date for the evening). Everyone is just so lovely – it’s such a great scene in Manchester and much bigger than most people realise.
And your dress was stunning, I spotted you and admired it and didn’t realise it was you!
